Importance of the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights

The enforcement of intellectual property rights i.e. the establishment of institutions for the enforcement of rights and their cooperation and partnership make an important instrument in fighting against counterfeiting and piracy as socially most important forms of infringement of the mentioned rights, as well as in fighting against accompanying criminal activities. In terms hereof, a functional infrastructure of intellectual property protection and a horizontal cooperation between competent state administration bodies are very important, as well as the cooperation with other relevant public and non-governmental organisations and the private sector.

Successful and efficient enforcement of intellectual property rights guarantees the protection of consumers, the protection of the citizens’ health, the protection of the economy and the preservation of workplaces, the prevention of organised crime; it also encourages innovativeness and increase in the production quality.
