Let us inform you that the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights (the EU Observatory), which is acting at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) published a new edition of “The Observatory Newsletter” (April, 2017).

The cover story of this issue of the newsletter provides the most important data and the conclusion from the study on “European Citizens and Intellectual Property – Perception, Awareness and Behaviour” representing a follow-up to the earlier research carried out in 2013 and which was already reported to the interested public on this web site, pointing to other EUIPO’s studies published in the past period.

The newsletter gives also an overview of education training activities held in the previous period, organised for professional training of judges and state attorneys as well as state officials working in the field of the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the Member States of the European Union. EU Observatory publishes also the news on the database containing the most important judgements rendered by national courts of the Member States of the European Union related to infringements of intellectual property rights, called eSearch case law database.

Related to the activities undertaken by the Member States in the field of raising awareness of the importance of intellectual property rights, the Croatian national campaign conducted during 2016 entitled “Do not buy a cat in a sack” was presented in the newsletter as well (p. 23), warning the citizens of potential risks they might be exposed to when buying counterfeit products via the internet services.

The newsletter elaborates on other topics as well related to the enforcement of intellectual property rights.

The newsletter is available at the following link.
