Meeting of the Group for Cooperation with Intellectual Property Rights Holders

The meeting of the Group for Cooperation with Intellectual Property Rights Holders (SSNOPIV), composed of representatives of the entities responsible for the enforcement of intellectual property rights, representatives of the associations of intellectual property rights holders, representatives of individual industry branches potentially endangered by infringements of intellectual property rights and representatives of consumer associations, was held on 6 June 2019 at the premises of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO).

The meeting was appropriately held on the World Anti-Counterfeiting Day, which is being celebrated as initiated by the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Network (GACG).

SSNOPIV has been operating since 2010 as a subgroup with the Coordination Board for the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights. Cooperation within the SSNOPIV provides for regular exchange of information on the current situation, the latest initiatives and actions in the field of the enforcement of intellectual property rights, both in the Republic of Croatia and internationally. SSNOPIV represents also a professional forum for the participants to make direct proposals on how to improve the enforcement system of intellectual property rights in the Republic of Croatia.

Permanent establishment of the joint website http://www.stop-krivotvorinama-i-piratstvu.hr/en/ belongs to one of the important actions within the entire mechanism of coordination in the enforcement of intellectual property rights intended for the public to be informed about all significant events in this area; information is being provided also via social networks of Facebook and Twitter.

Furthermore, a detailed Statistical Report on the Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights in the Republic of Croatia is being prepared and published every year.

In the course of 2016 and 2017, a national campaign on the risks of online purchase of counterfeit and piracy products titled “Do Not Buy a Pig in a Poke”, organised by responsible entities of the state administration and organisations participating in the mechanism of coordination for the enforcement of intellectual property rights. It is also worth mentioning that there were numerous joint activities carried out under the motto “Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy”.

Ever since 2017, there are interactive educations of children and youth on intellectual property held on a regular basis twice a year titled “Intellectual Property Day for Children and Youth”, developed in cooperation between the Office and the EUIPO; so far, there were manifestations held in Zagreb, Varaždin, Rijeka, Velika Gorica and Zadar.

There is also cooperation established between the SIPO and the State Public Administration School intended to educate state officials on intellectual property rights; and following many years of successful cooperation in the field of professional specialisation of judges and state attorneys in the field of intellectual property rights, the Agreement of Cooperation between the SIPO and the Judiciary Academy was signed in March 2018.
